Claudia Caffagni
Vissuta in ambiente musicalmente fecondo, Claudia Caffagni ha iniziato lo studio del liuto sotto la guida del padre Mirco all’età di tredici anni. Ha studiato poi con Federico Marincola e Jacob Lindberg, con il quale ha conseguito il diploma in “lute performing” presso il Royal College of Music di Londra nel 1989; in seguito ha studiato alla Schola Cantorum Basiliensis con Hopkinson Smith. Nel 1982 ha iniziato l’attività concertistica in varie formazioni e come solista. Allo studio dello strumento ha affiancato un necessario approfondimento sulle fonti, la notazione e i trattati concentrando in seguito il proprio interesse sul repertorio medioevale. Nel 1986 è stata una delle fondatrici dell’ensemble di musica medioevale laReverdie, uno tra i gruppi più importanti su scala internazionale, che si dedicano allo studio e all’interpretazione del repertorio medioevale.
Ha studiato tecnica vocale con Elisabetta Tandura.
Con l’ensemble laReverdie svolge un’intensa attività concertistica, partecipando ai più prestigiosi festival di tutta Europa e in Messico.
Nel 2015 ha fondato un duo con Paola Erdas con cui ha allestito un programma dedicato alla figura di Christine de Pizan.
Parallelamente alla sua intensa attività musicale, nel 1994 ha conseguito con il massimo dei voti e la lode la Laurea in Architettura presso lo IUAV.
Ha insegnato “Prassi esecutiva della musica antica” al Conservatorio di Trieste dal 2001 al 2006. Tiene regolarmente corsi e seminari in Italia e all’estero. Dal 2005 è docente di Musica Medievale presso la Civica Scuola di Musica “Claudio Abbado” di Milano, dove dal 2014 è responsabile del biennio sperimentale di Musica Medievale (per il quale è in fieri la richiesta di riconoscimento presso il Ministero come laurea di secondo livello). Dal 2007 al 2015 ha insegna Mittelalterlaute e Früe Notationskunde presso la Staatliche Hochschule für Musik di Trossingen (University of Music Trossingen/Early Music Institute). Nel 2016 ha iniziato una collaborazione con Fondazione Benetton e Almamusica433 per un nuovo progetto didattico mirato alla formazione di giovani musicisti selezionati, interessati al repertorio del tardo medioevo. Insegna ai Corsi Internazionali di Musica Antica di Urbino dal 2003.
Dal 2017 è coordinatrice dell’Istituto di Musica Antica della Civica Scuola di Musica “Claudio Abbado” di Milano.
Born and raised in a fertile musical environment, Claudia Caffagni began her study of the lute under the guide of her father Mirco at the age of thirteen. She continued her studies with Federico Marincola and Jacob Lindberg, from whom she received a diploma in Lute Performance at the Royal College of Music in London in 1989 and subsequently she studied with Hopkinson Smith in the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. In 1982 she began her professional activity both as a soloist and in various ensembles, specializing in Renaissance and pre-Baroque music. Together with the study of her instrument she also privileged the necessary study of musical source materials, notation and musical treatises, later concentrating her energies on the Medieval repertoire, already from the inception of the Ensemble laReverdie – one of the pre-eminent ensembles specializing in the study and performance Medieval music – of which she is a founding member (1986). She studied vocal technique with Elisabetta Tandura.
With the Ensemble laReverdie she has performed, in a regular activity, at the most prestigious festivals of all Europe and Mexico. She has recorded 20 CD.
In 2015 she founded with Paola Erdas a duo, working on a project dedicated to the figure of Christine de Pisan, in which she both sings and play lute and psalterium.
In 1994 she awarded (with honor) in Architecture at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia. She published her dissertation in 2011.
She has taught Early Music performance practice at the Conservatory “G. Tartini” in Trieste from 2001 until 2006. She regularly holds seminars, courses and master class in Italy and abroad. Since 2005 she teaches at Milano Civica Scuola di Musica “Claudio Abbado”, where in 2014 she founded and leads a Master in medieval music. From 2007 until 2015 she has taught medieval lute and medieval notation at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik di Trossingen. Since 2003 she teaches Medieval Music at the Urbino Early Music Courses.
Since February 2017 she is coordinator of the Early Music Department of the Milano Civica Scuola di Musica “Claudio Abbado”.
